Canva Pro features you get free in OpenTempl

Canva keeps several of its most used tools on paid plans. OpenTempl includes an equivalent of each one for free, with no trial and no sign in. OpenTempl is a separate app written from scratch. It does not use or unlock anything from Canva, and it is not affiliated with Canva.

How each one works

Background removal. Select a photo and press Remove background. The cut out runs in the app with an open model (BiRefNet lite, MIT licence), so your photo is not uploaded for it. The first use downloads the model once.

Magic resize. Choose a format, such as a story, a poster or a slide, and OpenTempl lays the design out again. Do it in place or keep a copy.

Brand kit. Save your logos, colours and fonts once and apply them to any design.

Bulk create. Paste rows from a spreadsheet and get one page for each row. Good for name badges, product cards and menus.

Version history. The app saves a snapshot every ten minutes. Go back to one when you break something.

Print PDF. Choose print, set the bleed and get crop marks. OpenTempl does not do CMYK colour or ICC profiles yet, so if your print shop needs CMYK, convert the PDF in a prepress tool.

Questions

Is OpenTempl a hacked or cracked version of Canva Pro?

No. It does not use Canva's code, servers or content. It is a separate open source app.

Do I need a Canva account to use OpenTempl?

No, and you do not need an OpenTempl account either.

Can students and teachers use it free?

Everyone uses it free. There are no tiers.

Will these features become paid later?

The code is MIT licensed, so the version you have stays free and open whatever happens next.
